Gillingham are preparing to take on Bristol City for the third time this season.
But Steve Lovell – one of four men in caretaker charge since Peter Taylor’s dismissal – believes this time the approach will be different.
The Gills have lost the previous two games at home, in the FA Cup and the league. The teams meet in the first leg of the Johnstone’s Paint area final on Tuesday at Priestfield.
Lovell and the rest of the caretaker management team insist they will be playing only one way while in charge.
He said: “Myself, Andy (Hessenthaler), Darren Hare and Mark Patterson have been asked to take over things at the moment and how long that will last we don’t know.
“While we are here we will put our own philosophy on the game of football and our philosophy is that we want to play attacking football when it’s on. That’s what the players want to play and what supporters want to see.
“The defensive side of it needs to come into that but we want players to express themselves going forward and creating chances.
“Bristol City are a good side and we have seen that twice (in the league and FA Cup) this season already at our place. We have got game plans and we have got things we would like to do against them, which is perhaps different to last time.
“We have got to listen to players as well. They enjoy playing their football and sometimes you have to let them do what they are good at. We know what the players can do so it’s up to them to show us.”
The Gills are likely to be without Aaron Morris after he suffered a hamstring injury in the defeat to Port Vale.
