Gillingham will travel to Crawley Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The draw was made on Thursday afternoon, with Gills handed a trip to their League 2 opponents.
The game is due to take place after the first league game of the season - at home to Lincoln - in the week commencing August 9, although it can be played the previous week if both teams agree.
Crawley have some familiar names in their ranks. Former Gills midfielder Jake Hessenthaler plays for Crawley, while keeper Glenn Morris has proved an excellent addition between the sticks. Stuart Nelson was on their books at the end of last season but was released in the summer.
It is also a return to his former club for Gillingham boss Steve Evans, who guided Crawley into the Football League in 2011.
Gills made it through to the third round of the competition last season before losing to Stoke City.
Having beaten Southend 1-0, and then knocked out Coventry on penalties, Steve Evans' side went down 1-0 at Stoke.
Gills also found out their opponents in the EFL Trophy group stages this afternoon.
They will be up against West Ham United under-21s, Ipswich Town and Colchester United. Dates for the three group matches are yet to be confirmed.
