Gillingham won’t be rolling over for promotion-chasing Preston, insists boss Justin Edinburgh.

The Gills travel to Preston on Tuesday to face a team sitting second in League 1.

Edinburgh’s men went up two places to 12th after the weekend and are playing for pride.

But Edinburgh, who has tasted just one loss in seven on the road since taking over as Gills boss, said: “We won’t be an easy game for anyone between now and the end of the season.

“We have too much to play for, too much pride, there are too many points.

“We obviously overcame last year’s points total, which was the first target, now we want to try and see if we can get to 60 points.”

Preston are eight points adrift of leaders Bristol City and the two teams played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday. They have lost just once in their last 16 games – to Manchester United in the FA Cup.

“We know what we are up against there, they are a top team, but we will give a good fist of it,” said Edinburgh.

“You want to finish as high as you can. You take pride in that and one thing is for sure, we won’t let this season fizzle out, we will keep going right to the end.”

Striker Luke Norris is an injury doubt for the midweek trip after receiving a blow to his stomach in Saturday’s win.

Left-back Amari’i Bell also revealed on twitter that he was carrying an injury. Joe Martin and Danny Galbraith are both injury doubts.
