Gillingham have been nominated for two Sky Bet EFL monthly awards for December.
Steve Evans is in the running for League 1 manager-of-the-month while former Tottenham defender Connor Ogilvie’s form has also been recognised, one of four in the division nominated for the player-of-the-month award.
The Gills finished December unbeaten in the league, with home wins over Sunderland, MK Dons and Rochdale while drawing at promotion-chasers Ipswich Town and Fleetwood.
He’ll be up against three other managers who have enjoyed a sizeable haul of points over the festive period.
Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton appears to be finding some better form after taking over from Danny Cowley. His team claimed three wins, including a 5-3 success over Ipswich, but lost back to back games at Coventry and Oxford.
Accrington Stanley, like the Gills, enjoyed three wins and a couple of draws over the month. Manager John Coleman’s biggest success in that run was a 4-1 home win over Portsmouth.
December was also a good month for Karl Robinson’s Oxford United, who went on a three-game winning streak to briefly put themselves into the automatic promotion places. They conceded just two goals over that spell but one was enough for MK Dons to beat them on the 14th.
Ogilvie had a stellar month, helping the Gills to three clean sheets – they conceded only twice in the league during December – and twice stole the headlines with late winners against Sunderland and Rochdale.
Also nominated for the award are AFC Wimbledon striker Marcus Forss – hitting four goals in the month – MK Dons’ midfielder Alex Gilbey whose three goals included a 20-yard curler against Doncaster and a delightful chip against Portsmouth.
Accrington’s Sean McConville played three games and scored three goals, including an injury-time winner at Blackpool.
