Gillingham have completed the signing of defender Christian Maghoma.
A towering left-sided centre-back, the 22-year-old was released by Tottenham in 2018 after coming through their academy without making a first-team appearance for the club.
He is a former team-mate of current Gills defender Connor Ogilvie so should have no problems settling in at Priestfield.
Maghoma becomes the ninth signing this summer for Gillingham boss Steve Evans, who has had to rebuild his squad after finishing 10th in League 1 during last season's campaign which came to an abrupt halt in March due to Covid-19.
Evans said: "Christian is a big powerful, no nonsense central defender. We have had to be patient to land his talents and I am grateful to chairman Paul Scally for working hard to get him here.
“We will let the lad settle in and we will go from there. It takes our first-team squad numbers to 17 players so we are getting closer to the numbers we will start the season with. A small but talented squad.”
After leaving Spurs, Maghoma joined Polish club Arka Gdynia and made 36 league appearances. He has been linked with numerous clubs this summer, including Rangers, Middlesbrough, Blackburn and QPR.
Maghoma, who has made one appearance for the Democratic Republic of Congo, said: "I know the size of the club and where it wants to go in the future and everyone in the building has been so welcoming.
"I just want to play. I love football and have been playing since I was eight. I'm tough, I won't let people get past me easily and I love to talk and be a leader."
