Gillingham boss Neil Harris has made his second summer signing, landing Shaun Williams.
The 35-year-old midfielder, who worked with Harris previously at Millwall, becomes the Gills' second signing in just over a week after Will Wright joined from Dagenham & Redbridge.
Williams featured for Portsmouth last season - making 35 appearances - and has also played for MK Dons.
He said: "I am really pleased to be here. I'm excited at the opportunity ahead and I'm grateful to be working with Neil and David [Livermore, Gillingham's assistant manager] again.
"I'm a controlled kind of player, I like to get on the ball and I like to do what I can for the team.
"I don't want any headlines, I like to go under the radar. I'm looking forward to getting going."
Gills boss Harris added: "I am delighted to get Shaun Williams within the group - an experienced player that I've worked with in the past.
"I know the characteristics that Shaun will bring to the dressing room, but also the pitch.
"He provides a calming influence, on and off the pitch, he is a leader in the changing room. He is a very, very intelligent footballer, and quality player at the level."
