Manager Ady Pennock has called on his Gills team to be braver in the box.
Gillingham are the only team in the EFL yet to score a league goal – their misery compounded by Josh Wright’s late penalty miss at MK Dons on Saturday.
Following the 1-0 defeat, head coach Pennock admitted he is becoming concerned.
He said: “We had chances again but we didn’t score and people have to break their necks to get on the end of the second ball, or even the first chance.
“We put a lot of pressure on them and (striker) Tom Eaves was a handful all game. You just need people running off him or being braver in the box, on the knock down and being ruthless in the six-yard box. Liam Nash looked nice and bright when he went on.
“It was one of those games where we had opportunities to be brave and get on the end of things, but we are not doing that at the moment.”
A lack of goals means the Gills now have just one point from their first three league games and are already out of the Carabao Cup.
“We have been in every game,” said Pennock. “Against Doncaster (0-0) we were nice and solid and got a clean sheet but the Bradford game (losing 1-0) we should have scored and again on Saturday.
“But there is no point being in every game if you don’t score a goal.
“We have to start scoring goals, football is not rocket science. If you don’t score goals you don’t win games.
“We are creating and if we weren’t then I would be worried. I am at the stage where I am a little bit worried that we’re not scoring.
“But, we will see, we will keep working hard in training and hopefully that will come.
“It’s bitterly disappointing because we should never have lost that game (on Saturday). It’s disappointing for the fans who have travelled again but we have to move on and look forward to next week now.”
