Gillingham reserves were beaten 3-2 by Charlton Reserves in Wednesday's rearranged totesport.com Combination Central League match at Sparrows Lane.
Grant Basey's penalty and a debut goal from former Sporting Lisbon striker Rudolph Douala gave Charlton a 2-0 lead.
Gillingham hit back to level through an own goal from Yado Mambo and a Luis Cumbers penalty.
The scores remained level until the 75th minute when Stuart Fleetwood produced an excellent volley to win the match for Charlton.
Gillingham included Rhys Coleman, a former Charlton academy player.
The match, a scheduled Gillingham home game, was switched to Sparrows Lane after being postponed on February 4.
