Captain Doug Loft completed his first 90 minutes for Gillingham in over a month on Saturday.
The skipper made his return to action from an Achilles injury in the midweek win over Peterborough.
Boss Peter Taylor admitted he wasn’t still 100% match fit at the weekend, for the game against Walsall, but felt he needed to keep the 27-year-old involved for the duration.
“He still looked tired and in the end if was an iffy one,” admitted Taylor. “I wanted to bring Amine Linganzi on and I just wasn’t sure at the time whether it was going to be Jake or Doug Loft (that went off).
“On the strength of Doug’s left foot, I think he could sit and put something in there. Doug will be fine next week and there weren’t any more injuries.”
Luke Norris did receive some ice treatment following a collision with the advertising hoardings, as he tried to connect to a Cody McDonald cross. But there was no lasting damage.
Taylor said: “He showed the good desire to be in the right areas and if that’s what he has to put up with because of it then that’s fine.”
