Gillingham’s squad numbers for the coming season have been announced.
It remains to be seen if there are any clues in there about manager Steve Evans’ preferred starting line-up.
One jersey that is still up for grabs is the number nine shirt, which was worn by Mikael Mandron last time out.
Connor Ogilvie switches from the number six shirt to three this season – perhaps indicating a left-back role.
Young centre-back Jack Tucker upgrades to the number five shirt vacated by former captain Max Ehmer, who joined League 1 rivals Bristol Rovers on a free transfer in the summer.
With Brandon Hanlan yet to sign a new deal with Gills, he has not been allocated a shirt. Indeed, having worn seven last year, that number goes to Matt Willock this season with new signing Kyle Dempsey taking on the number eight shirt.
Other new recruits, Zech Medley, Jordan Graham and Trae Coyle will wear six, 10 and 11 respectively.
When Gills announced last season’s initial squad numbers, there were 24 players given a shirt. That number this time around is reduced to just 19 so far – a sign of the times at Priestfield with budgets tight as the club come out of the six-month shutdown.
