Gillingham boss Ady Pennock now has four goalkeepers in his senior squad - after signing Steve Arnold.
The former Dover stopper became Pennock's second signing of the week, following the capture of former Crewe centre-back Ben Nugent on Tuesday.
Arnold, 27, played under Pennock at Forest Green Rovers and last season helped Dover Athletic finish sixth in the National League.
The arrival of Arnold looks as if it could finally spell the end of Stuart Nelson’s time at Priestfield.
The former no.1 Gills keeper has been replaced by Tomas Holy this season, with youngster Tom Hadler on the bench.
Hadler will most likely head out on loan, with Arnold and Holy fighting for the keeper’s jersey.
Arnold said: “I’ve been here for the last two or three weeks just getting familiar with the boys and I’m buzzing to get it all signed and sorted.
“I still have ambitions of making a name for myself in the league and hopefully I can do that here.”
Pennock added: “I signed Steve during my time at Forest Green and he was top drawer there. For me he hasn’t fulfilled his potential as a goalkeeper, he is a good lad and will fit in well.”
