Gillingham have rejected three separate offers from Championship side Bristol City for midfielder Bradley Dack.
The club’s leading goalscorer is one of League 1’s hottest properties but boss Justin Edinburgh doesn’t believe City is the right move for the player.
City – struggling in the Championship and under caretaker management - are understood to have tabled offers around the £1m mark and that’s a figure Edinburgh dismissed as “nowhere near” the amount the club are willing to consider.
Edinburgh had a lengthy conversation with Dack on Tuesday morning before training and hopes the 22-year-old will be staying put in the transfer window.
The Gills boss said: “There will always be a club that would come and turn Bradley’s head, and not disrespecting Bristol City, but this is where he wants to be.
“A club will find a price for a player but right now that hasn’t been met. I am not sure that is the right club for him and we will carry on as normal.
“The boy is focused on what he is doing here; that is playing well, scoring goals, creating goals and being a part of a real fantastic group.
The transfer window closes on February 1.
Dack has scored 13 goals for the Gills this season, 11 of them in League 1, helping Edinburgh’s team maintain a top four position in the division since the start of the season.
The former Charlton youth player extended his deal with the Gills in April 2014, agreeing a contract that sees him tied to the club until the summer of 2018.
Gillingham’s valuation may be swayed by the expected transfer of Peterborough’s leading scorer Conor Washington to Championship side QPR. A deal of £2.5m is understood to have been agreed.
Edinburgh’s side meet Peterborough on Saturday.
