Gillingham skipper Doug Loft left Boundary Park nursing an injury after a heavy challenge on Saturday.
Loft scored from 30 yards but hobbled off in the second half after being tackled by Oldham’s Matt Palmer.
The captain was in an aircast boot at the end of the game, to keep the pressure off the injury.
He is due to have a scan on Monday to find out how bad the problem is.
Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “Hopefully it is not too bad but first thoughts are it looked like it was a nasty challenge.”
Palmer was booked for the challenge and Edinburgh felt that was a reasonable punishment.
“It was an honest challenge,” he said. “He has caught him but I don’t think there was any real intent. A booking was fair.”
Gillingham were hit with an injury blow before Saturday's game with the news John Egan will miss much of the season run-in.
