Billy Knott will be touch and go for Monday's trip to Bolton.
The 24-year-old Gillingham midfielder has been trying to overcome a hamstring strain picked up early in the game against Rochdale last month.
Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “He is doing okay, we have had an extra couple of days and we are being mindful and careful. We will have to see. We are hoping that it’s a positive and he will be fit for selection.”
The game has come too soon for left-back Bradley Garmston, however, as he looks to get over a hamstring injury of his own.
Edinburgh said: “I think we are going to have to get him a bit more game-time out of the first team so we might have to arrange a few fixtures to make sure he is right before he comes back in.
“He is progressing, he is out running and near enough back in full training. He is progressing well.”
The Bolton game comes 16 days since their last match, a 3-0 win over Rochdale.
Edinburgh said: “It has been a good time for us to get those players in condition.
“Chris Herd rolled his ankle at Brackley and he has come back. We have tried to condition the players in the time we had and we believe it will stand us in good stead."
Bolton are chasing an instant return to the Championship this season, winning eight of their last nine league games and beating fellow League 1 side Sheffield United in the FA Cup last Sunday.
Edinburgh said: “It’s going to be a tough one but it’s a great game for us to go and play. We are not in too bad form ourselves of late.”
