Holcombe Hockey Club's men's 1sts put some distance between themselves and the Conference East relegation places following a 1-0 victory over Sevenoaks on Sunday.

Yasser Khan claimed the winning goal with just a minute to go to end a run of six games without a win.

“We marginally deserved the win,” said Holcombe’s Mike Haines.

“Three points makes quite a difference in the league. It makes things look healthier and with a few more wins we can creep up a bit higher.”

The ladies' 1sts had a disappointing weekend after dropping points in the league and crashing out of the EH Cup.

On Saturday they drew 5-5 with Tunbridge Wells in the East League, Premier Division, with goals from Jennie Hoyte (2), Marlisse Joubert, Candice Forword and Lauren Osborn.

Holcombe let a 5-4 lead slip after conceding a last-minute penalty corner.

On Sunday they lost 2-0 at home to Epsom in the last 16 of the EH Cup.

The side were missing a couple of key players including Joubert.
