Holcombe Hockey Club have announced the arrival of South African international Samkelo Mvimbi, who has become Kwan Browne’s ninth summer signing.
Mvimbi’s arrival follows the signings of Ali Shan, Mubashar Ali, Rohan Bhuhi, Matt Ramshaw, Matt Symonds, Teague Marcano, Tim Neild and Felix Tully, writes Emma Payne.
He arrives having recently competed in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, his second Games following Tokyo, and is set to link up with the squad this coming week ahead of Holcombe’s final pre-season match.
Mvimbi, 25, has won 63 caps for his country to date, also competing in the 2022 Commonwealth Games as well as one edition of the FIH Pro League and two FIH Nations Cup events.
Playing primarily as a midfielder, Mvimbi has scored eight international goals.
In 2022, he also won the Senior IPT Men - A Section - Player of the Tournament award while playing for Western Province.
On joining Holcombe, Mvimbi said: “I am so excited to finally join, I saw that the gents had a good pre-season in Belgium and made some strides towards the start of the season.
“I am looking forward to helping the team where I can and enjoy my time doing it!”
Head Coach and Director of Hockey Browne added: “Samkelo matches his technical ability with incredible work ethic.
“His experience from two Olympic Games will add tremendous value to our squad and I am looking forward to working with him.”
