Gillingham boss Steve Lovell isn’t surprised Tomas Holy has attracted interest but thinks the keeper still has a lot to learn.

Czech keeper Holy joined the Gills a year ago as Ady Pennock’s first signing during his time as manager.

The former Sparta Prague stopper, who stands at 6ft 9in, has replaced Stuart Nelson as Gills’ No.1, making big impressions of late after a shaky start to the season.

Crystal Palace, whose scout Steve Kember has watched the Gills on a number of occasions this season, are one of a number of teams rumoured to be showing interest in the giant keeper.

Lovell said: “The more games he has played the better he has got.

“I still think he gets sloppy at times, that is something we have to get into him, but overall you can’t complain about him, he has been absolutely brilliant.

“He is a professional who works very hard.

“Glen (Johnson, the goalkeeper coach) works very hard with him and Nels and the other two keepers, Steve (Arnold) and Tom (Hadler). There is a good group there.

“He (Holy) has done well, there is a lot more to come out of him, he is by no means the finished article, but he is progressing to become a very good goalkeeper.

“There will be clubs interested, like most of our players, especially now in January when clubs are looking for certain positions in their team.

“As far as we are concerned all of our players are here with us and will remain with us. There is no need to get rid of anyone. We don’t want to get rid of anyone because we have a battle between now and the end of the season and there is a long way to go.

“We need everyone who has done the work to get us to this point to now continue with us. We want everyone to stay.”
