Bradley Garmston is due to return to Gillingham this week following a fortnight in Qatar.
The 23-year-old has been away receiving private treatment on his hamstrings after a season that has been wrecked by injury.
Garmston picked up three separate hamstring injuries as he attempted to recover from a dislocated knee which he suffered in pre-season.
His injury problems have limited him to just seven appearances for the Gills this season, completing just one full 90-minute match.
Head coach Ady Pennock said: “If the trip to Qatar helps him then brilliant.
“If we can get him back before the end of the season then that will be a big bonus.
“The physio and Neil Withington (fitness coach) have been keeping in touch with the people on Qatar and it will be touch and go to play this season but I am always optimistic. If he can come in for the last weeks it will be a big bonus.”
There will be no pressure for Garmston to return before the end of the season and it’s still doubtful that he will play again until pre-season.
Pennock said: “People could see how he felt when he
came off in the game against Wimbledon
because he works hard but he needs a bit of luck now.”
Garmston went on as a second half sub in that Wimbledon game but was forced off through injury 25 minutes later.
