Rochester United host Halls AFC at Rede Court Road this Saturday in Division 1 of the Southern Counties East Football League

Rochester United will be looking to get their promotion bid back on track with a home fixture this Saturday.

While overall performance levels have remained high, mistakes have proved costly, and last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Lewisham Borough extended their winless streak to four games, picking a point over that period.

Halls are the visitors to Rede Court Road as Matt Hume’s men go again.

He said: “We’re playing quite well in games but it just seems that we can’t buy a win at the moment.

“We’re having to work really hard for our goals and we seem to have conceded really cheap, rubbish goals.”

Rochester went two goals down against Lewisham on Saturday before an own goal got them back in the game ahead of the interval.

Hume said: “We created a few good moves and chances, and then we conceded really cheaply. It knocked the wind out of us.

“I felt like we were so much better than them. They didn’t do anything other than capitalise on two mistakes.”

United are still well placed to get into the play-offs, with games in hand over those teams above them and sitting just seven points off the top five.

Hume would much rather have the points in the bag but knows his team remain in a good position despite the recent run of results.

He said: “We’ve struggled a bit the last month. We were in a really good position with games in hand and we’ve made it harder work for ourselves now.

“One win and we’ll be back on it and we haven’t been playing badly.

“We went down to Clapton and we were outstanding in the first half. That was three or four weeks ago. We went in 1-0 up and we were brilliant.

“Really, really good, in front of a big crowd and then we conceded a really cheap goal and then they scored in the 96th minute when we’re trying to get the winner. We’ve had games like that.

“We can’t keep going like this. We can’t keep not getting a bit of luck or making some bad mistakes. That’s what I’m hoping.

“I couldn’t even have a go at them Saturday.

“Fundamentally we're playing quite well and we’ve got everyone available.

“We’ve got a team that can definitely put a good run together.”

Following the game against Halls, Hume’s men take on Division 1 leaders Forest Hill Park on Wednesday.
