Gillingham’s new signing Remeao Hutton had other options when deciding to leave Swindon Town but is keen to progress up the leagues at Priestfield

Gillingham new boy Remeao Hutton was sold by the club's ambition and a chance to move up the leagues.

Hutton signed a permanent deal with the Gills on Wednesday but had other options - with League 2 leaders Stockport County apparently interested too - but he feels there is a great chance to progress with the Kent club.

More: “He’ll be a real asset to the team”

Speaking to the Gills on Wednesday, he said the project going on at present under the American owners was a big factor in signing.

He said: “I know the new investors are looking to grow the club and get back into League 1 and hopefully the Championship while I am here and I want to be a part of that.

“We are a point off the play-offs and hopefully we can have a real strong finish to the season.”

Hutton played at Swindon with playmaker Jonny Williams, who moved to the Gills in the summer.

He was another factor in wanting to join.

“I had been speaking to him quite a lot,” said the 25-year-old.

“He said what a great club it was and any advice I needed throughout this process I just spoke to him over the phone. He was a factor for me coming here as well.”

Hutton was asked what he would bring to the team. His crossing and assist stats are up there with the best in the division.

“I want to create as many chances as possible,” he said. “I like to cross the ball and hopefully I can get some assists here.

“I’ll give 100% every time I step on the pitch and hopefully I can show that on Saturday.”
