Rochester United have made a swift managerial appointment following Matt Hume's resignation.
Hume announced he was quitting the Southern Counties East side last week and his last game in charge was a 4-0 defeat to Sheppey.
Taking over from him is Kent FA coach Ian Varley, who recently quit as manager of Holmesdale.
Departing boss Matt Hume, who took charge of his final game last Saturday, will remain on the committee at Rochester.
Hume helped choose his replacement, alongside his brother and Rochester chairman Lloyd Hume.
The Rochester chairman said: "Ian is a young coach and works in football full-time which was important. He will have the time and the enthusiasm.
“We wanted to bring someone in from outside the club because with fresh ideas and a fresh look at things. He met me and my brother and we decided together. We are delighted with the appointment.”
Jason Long, who was first team coach, will be Varley's assistant manager.
Rochester are currently bottom of the Premier Division, without a win.
But Mr Hume is confident they have the time to turn it around and the man to do it.
He said: “We’ve got loads of time and that’s why he (Matt) made the decision (to quit) when he did. He wanted to be fair to whoever comes in and I think there is more than enough time.
"We are delighted to get a manager of Ian's calibre here.”
