Defender Max Ehmer has taken little satisfaction from his scoring form.
Nobody in the Gills team can better his record of seven league goals this season after he added another to the tally in the 2-1 defeat at Coventry on Saturday.
You won’t catch the German celebrating, however.
He said: “I seem to be in the right place at the right time but the goals are irrelevant to me.
“I would rather we won 2-0 and the other team score two own goals. Results are all we are trying to get.”
With one point separating the Gills and the bottom four, he knows just how important it is that they start picking up wins. They haven’t had a win since beating MK Dons before Christmas.
A poor first-half display at Coventry led to an uphill task as their winless run was stretched to 10 games.
He said: “We are angry with our first-half performance. Second half we flew out the traps and got our goal but couldn’t get the second.
“We can’t keep giving away goals and trying to recover.
“If we start the game how we played in the second half, we are going to win three or four nil, but it wasn’t to be and we look forward to Tuesday night now (against AFC Wimbledon) and getting a result.
“We are 100% in a relegation battle and have to start picking up wins or we will get closer and closer to it.
"We are just one point away and need wins ASAP.”
