Goalkeeper Steve Arnold still has a chance of playing for Gillingham this weekend against Shrewsbury, says head coach Ady Pennock.
The Gills keeper made his debut on Tuesday night, putting on an impressive performance in their 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy win over Southend United.
Arnold was making saves even after breaking his nose and damaging his teeth following a challenge from former Gills man Jermaine McGlashan.

A trip to the dentist and a once-over from the Gills medical staff will determine whether the 28-year-old will be fit for action on Saturday, but Pennock believes he could still be involved.
Pennock, speaking after the Southend game, said: “He is brave but we have (Stuart) Nelson here as well. Tomas Holy didn’t play so we have some good back-up.
“He is a strong old boy but his face is a bit of a mess. He will want to play but we have to see how his nose is. The nose was put back in place (on the pitch) but I imagine he’ll be going to the dentist.
Josh Wright ready to "tear up" his Gillingham contract
“I think he lost a couple of teeth. He’s a good keeper and I am very pleased.”
Arnold arrived at Gillingham following a season at Dover. He previously played under Pennock at Forest Green Rovers. His performance could lead to a start in the league, but the manager will wait on the injury first.
“I think his wife will be a little disappointed,” said the manager. “He’s a handsome young man, but not so handsome at the moment!”
If Arnold isn’t fit for the weekend, it could mean a recall to the squad for Nelson, as young keeper Tom Hadler is out on loan at non-league Gloucester City.
