Gillingham picked up more injuries, before and after their trip to Fleetwood.

The Gills travelled without Scott Wagstaff and Ryan Jackson, who were both hoping to have shaken off injuries before the weekend.

But Bradley Dack also pulled out after a niggling hamstring injury got the better of him.

More woes came late on as Chris Herd went down with a hamstring strain and had to be replaced.

Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “It seems it is the way things are going but we have to roll our sleeves up. It’s not a challenge I will shirk from. It’s another setback but the squad is here and someone else can step in.”

Dack was close to being involved at the weekend but Edinburgh was unwilling to take a risk.

He said: “He travelled with us. He had a tight hamstring in the latter part of the week. He wasn’t a million miles away but to risk him for one game where there was a possibility of losing him for six to eight weeks just wasn’t the right call.”

On Herd’s situation, Edinburgh said: “He has got a slight strain with his hamstring. That would be a big blow (if he was to be out for a period) but we will have to assess that.”

Keeper Jonathan Bond (groin) also missed out at the weekend but left-back Bradley Garmston is closing in on a return, following a serious pre-season injury. He has been pencilled in the for Checkatrade Trophy match against West Brom on November 8.
