Connor Ogilvie says he has developed from a boy to a man during his four years with Gillingham.
The 25-year-old first joined the Gills on loan from Tottenham in the summer of 2017, initially on a six-month deal. He stayed for the season, returned on loan the following year and finally agreed a permanent deal in 2019. His time at Priestfield is over now after agreeing a two-year deal with Portsmouth.
His game has come on leaps and bounds at the Gills, developing into a dependable League 1 defender. He was expected to move into the Championship this summer but will instead be lining up for one of Gillingham’s divisional rivals.
“I’ve definitely found my new home,” he stated after completing his deal with Portsmouth, adding: “Let’s get this promotion push started.”
Ogilvie took to social media after his move was confirmed to thank those who have helped make him the player he now is.
He wrote: “I joined Gillingham on loan four years ago as a boy and immediately knew this was the club for me to further my ability and work on my trade, today I leave the club a man (all be it with some head scars!).
“Thank you for all the amazing memories; cup runs, last minute winners, but most importantly all the support: from the lads, the staff, the gaffer and the fans. I wouldn’t be the player I have become today if it wasn’t for all your help.”
He thanks Steve Evans for his role, saying: “Gaffer, thank you for everything, you’ve been a key factor in my career so far and I have nothing but admiration and respect for you.
“I would also like to mention (Gills chairman) Paul Scally who has been nothing but fantastic in supporting me as well as keeping the club a well oiled machine, ever evolving and getting better each season.”
He concluded: “To the fans - THANK YOU. For your constant support, tweets, tags, comments, everything. It’s been nothing but a pleasure putting on the blue shirt and playing for this fantastic club. Good luck in the future Gills, it’s been an amazing time and again thank you for everything.”
