There will be a first as Invicta Dynamos head coach for Karl Lennon this weekend.
The Mos will be at home against Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday night before a trip to face Chelmsford Chieftains the following evening in NIHL South Division 1.
Children aged 15 and under can watch Dynamos in action against Thunder for just £1 while the game will also see the return of the Teddy Bear Toss at Gillingham’s Planet Ice.
Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears or other stuffed toys to the game, and to throw them onto the ice at the first-period buzzer break, with the items donated going to Demelza hospice and the Medway Hospital Charity Children’s Outreach and Specialist Team. All teddies and soft toys must be brand-new and in a clear plastic bag to prevent them getting wet after they land on the ice.
Lennon said: “This is my third season as head coach - but it seems like I took the job yesterday!
“I’ve been part of the club for 30 years or more now so it’s nice to experience new things.
“I remember it from my time as a player - but not as a coach - because I had time away from the club with kids, work and other things like that. It’s good to do stuff like that and the Teddy Bear Toss will be sweet to see.
“We have done a few different things to get different crowds in. We have a good community and we should try to do as much as we can to keep them involved.
“Anything we can do for a good cause is important and it’s important that we are getting young kids through the building.
“If we can embrace them, hopefully, they will be more inclined to support us.”
After another double-header weekend, Invicta Dynamos will not return to action until mid-December, a break which allows them to get unavailable players back on the roster.
Lennon said: “We have this weekend, then we have a bit of a break with a few weekends off.
“For us, that’ll be a good opportunity to get players back fit because we have had injuries and suspensions to deal with. Once we have got some of them back this side of Christmas, hopefully, we can kick on.
“But having these games gives us an opportunity to get back on track.”
The Mos were defeated twice last weekend, 9-2 at Streatham Redhawks and 4-1 at home to Slough Jets. Tom Soar scored twice against Redhawks while Callum Burnett struck against Slough.
Lennon stated: “We have had a run of games where we have not managed to match the result with our performance. But, in the last three games, we haven’t been a million miles off.
“It was kind of similar against Solent the weekend before on penalties.
“On Saturday, it was quite even until the major penalty and Sunday was pretty even until the end. With a bit more good fortune, we could probably have got across the line in all of those games.
“We’ll just keep knuckling down.”
