Gillingham are unlikely to sign former winger Matt Jarvis, according to manager Steve Evans.
Evans had the player in training last week but hasn’t heard from him since before the weekend.
Jarvis made over 100 appearances for the Gills before going onto play Premier League football at Wolves, West Ham and Norwich and winning an England cap, but he’s now a free agent after a troublesome few years of injury.
It’s now likely that Jarvis, 33, will sign elsewhere.
Gills boss Evans said: “He said he would be in touch but I have not heard. I would say we are done and dusted with that one and it would probably mean Matty has got a deal in the offing somewhere.
“We just couldn’t move that quickly. We had to be absolutely 100% sure that if we put him on a deal that says pay as you play we have to be convinced that he is fit and is going to be around it.
“He did great in the first few days but probably the fact he hasn’t come in probably puts that to bed now.”
Evans is still working hard on additions and had meetings with two players and their representatives on Tuesday.
Speaking after the game on Saturday, he said he was looking for up to three new additions and was hopeful of adding a new face in time to face Burton Albion this weekend.
“There are a couple of players who are keen to come, it doesn’t mean the clubs are keen for them to come, but we are working really hard,” added the manager.
