Gills players are in no position to take things easy in the last three games of the season.
Steve Lovell, armed with a two-year deal, will have decisions to make over his squad this summer.
The squad should be out to impress, either to convince Lovell they have a future at Priestfield or to put themselves in the shop window.
Few did themselves any favours in the 1-0 defeat by Rotherham on Tuesday night and while contracts aren't decided on one game, Gillingham need a performance at home to Blackpool this weekend after a seven-match winless run.
Boss Lovell said: "It's not going to change my opinion on certain players, one game, because a lot of them have been brilliant for us all season, but certainly it'll stick in my mind more if they're having good games rather than bad games, and there's not many bad games that we've had this year.
"I think they've got to prove themselves whether they're going to stay here or go somewhere else.
"It's not going to do them any good if they're not performing because no one else will take them, even if we don't, so it's something they've got to deal with themselves and keep performing.
"At the moment they're employed by Gillingham Football Club and they've got to roll their sleeves up and have a go."
Blackpool arrive at Priestfield as one of the form teams in League 1 after three straight wins and Lovell is promising changes, including a return for skipper Lee Martin after a four-match suspension.
Gabriel Zakuani, meanwhile, is expected to shake off a bang on the head to retain his place in central defence.
Lovell said: "Blackpool are on a bit of a good run recently so it's another tough game. "We'll have to dust ourselves down and pick a team Saturday where we're going to go out and have a right good go. There'll definitely be changes."
