Billy Knott was thrilled to see Jay Emmanuel-Thomas provide the magic for Gillingham.
Emmanuel-Thomas hit an injury-time winner for the Gills against Northampton on Saturday.
Knott said: “I love playing in the same team as him and he is a great lad as well. He is good to be around and you can only learn off players like that.
“He was tremendous, along with the other boys and it was a group effort, but it was Jay’s magic at the end that won us the game. Everyone in the dressing room was relieved, it has been a long time coming.”
The Gills had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to win after Max Ehmer had levelled early in the second half.
Knott said: “At half-time we were all frustrated as it was probably one of the best we have played on the ball this season.
“It was a great finish from Max and JET produced that bit of magic at the end. It is a great win to push us forward now.
“We knew that win was coming. We are playing good, enjoyable football, but it is a results game and we knew we needed to turn it around."
The Gills take a brief pause from League 1 action when they travel to National League North side Brackley Town for an FA Cup first round replay on Wednesday.
Knott played in the first game and said: “We can’t let them try and bully us at their place. We know it is going to be hostile but we have to be professionals, get the job done and move forward.”
