Gillingham's League 1 relegation rivals Morecambe win while Fleetwood and Wimbledon pick up a point as Neil Harris' side drop back into the bottom four

Gillingham dropped back into the League 1 relegation zone on Tuesday night.

Morecambe won their game in hand over the Gills, against Oxford United, to leapfrog Neil Harris' side into 20th place. That result meant Gillingham slipped back to 21st and into the bottom four.

The Gills weren’t in action but plenty of teams around them in the relegation scrap were. Wimbledon and Fleetwood both picked up a point.

Morecambe moved above the Gills courtesy of a 2-1 comeback win over Oxford United, recovering from conceding in the third minute against the play-off chasers.

Fleetwood still have a game in hand over Gillingham and they are a point above the drop zone after a 1-1 draw with Lincoln City.

Wimbledon are three points behind the Gills, now on the same games played, having picked up a point at home to Charlton Athletic. Their match finished level at 1-1.

Crewe Alexandra, meanwhile, at the bottom, suffered a 2-1 defeat at MK Dons and are destined for League 2. Doncaster, second from bottom, are also looking in big trouble.

It now looks like it is down to four teams, Wimbledon, Gillingham, Morecambe and Fleetwood, fighting to avoid the final two relegation places.

Gills boss Harris was at Cambridge to watch weekend opponents Wycombe win 4-1.

“We can’t control what happens with results elsewhere,” the Gills boss said ahead of the midweek action.

“We have to take care of our own business and we have done extremely well with that mentality and focus so far. I know that come 5pm on Saturday we will be in a lot healthier place with four games to go than when I first took over with 18 to go.”
