Justin Edinburgh is considering making a permanent move for Birmingham City’s Amari’i Bell.
The Gills manager brought left-back Bell in on loan last month as cover for injured Joe Martin.
Edinburgh has liked what he’s seen and if Birmingham decide against keeping the 20-year-old in the summer, he’ll be first in the queue.
“He has got better every game,” said the Gills boss.
“Coming in (to Gills) at this late stage of the season he had to hit the ground running, get to know his team mates and the style of play and it’s not always easy. He’s been excellent and there is more to come from him.
“There are a lot of attributes he has for a modern day full-back and we just have to keep pushing him because I feel there is more to come.
“He’s really approached it positively and at times has taken the game to the opposition. He has been a good signing.
“His performances would put him on our radar. I understand they (Birmingham) have an option on him; I'm not sure that’s been activated as yet, but we will monitor that, because the potential is there for someone who could be a big asset to the football club.”
Bell has started the last four games for the Gills and, with Martin still injured, looks set to remain in the side.
