Gills skipper Doug Loft is in danger of missing the rest of the regular campaign.
Loft went off with an Achilles problem on Saturday against Crewe and is likely to be out between four and six weeks.
It is another setback for a player who has been dogged by injury all season.
Boss Justin Edinburgh said: “It is another blow but these situations are ones you have to overcome.
“We will look to get him back (before the end of the season) but we won’t risk Doug, in terms of his own health. Every player is desperate to get back into the team and be ready for that final push.
“It is tough for Doug, he has had a stop-start campaign. He was excellent last Saturday but it is someone else’s opportunity to come in and take their chance.”
Gills could be without defender Adam El-Abd this weekend, after he pulled up with a hamstring injury last Saturday. He was due to train at the end of the week but won’t be risked.
Edinburgh has already brought in a replacement, with Cardiff central defender Deji Oshilaja moving back on loan for the rest of the season.
Youngster Elliott List is out with a hamstring strain and Adam Chicksen has returned to parent club Brighton while recovering from a knee injury. Ryan Jackson is back in training and will be assessed.
