Doug Loft could be involved this weekend if he comes through a week of training unscathed.
The Gillingham captain has been missing since mid-March with a calf injury, keeping him out of their last eight games.
Returning to the starting XI for the crucial clash at Burton on Saturday is unlikely but the 29-year-old midfielder could be giving boss Justin Edinburgh extra options to consider.
Edinburgh said: “He is in full training and we have to be open minded. We won’t risk the player but we know how important the game is and it is weighing up those factors.
“He has had some big performances and popped up with some big goals. The stronger the squad is the better it is for the last two games.”
Cody McDonald limped off last weekend late on after rolling his ankle but he is expected to be fit.
“He was hobbling a bit and we just felt we needed to throw someone else on,” said the manager.
“He is fine. I am pleased for Cody, he is getting sharper and his goal was a fantastic one, his header against the bar was a complete header, he took the pace off the cross and guided it back in. They are things that do and don’t go for you at the moment.”
Andrew Crofts, Adam El-Abd and Bradley Garmston are doubts and will all be assessed in the build-up to the match.
