Liam Nash scored twice for the Gills at Margate and his pre-season efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
Boss Steve Lovell appreciated the effort the striker has been putting in since returning from the summer break.
The striker saw little action last season under Lovell but is determined to force his way into the team this time around.
Lovell said: “Liam has worked hard in pre-season, really hard. He has given everything and he is a different kind of striker (to what we already have).
“He is sharp and he scored goals at Tiptree (before moving to the Gills) and you don’t score 40 goals if you are not a good goalscorer.
“He has worked hard and he can give us another option. He is quick, he is sharp, it is what we want. All of our players up front can run.
“I am pleased with all of the boys, we are pushing in the right direction. There are still three weeks to go, but if we can carry on this way we won’t be far short for Accrington and we will be looking forward to that.”
Fellow striker Noel Mbo scored against Tonbridge, finding the top corner from 25 yards.
“He had to do that because he missed one from about an inch!” joked Lovell. “I ribbed him about that.
“I thought he did really well. He has improved tremendously and again he is a quick, strong and athletic player and he can score goals.
"He is another not far behind the rest of the forwards.”
