Extra work has been put in at the training ground to eradicate Gillingham's defensive errors.
The Gills came under intense pressure at times last weekend in the win over Burton and manager Steve Lovell knows how to rectify the problems.
And he hopes it’s a case of practice making perfect.
“We have looked at it,” said the manager.
“We spoke to the players about how these teams cause us problems at times when they are in possession of the ball and it starts with our two front men.
“The first line of defence is your front men and if they don’t do their job it is like a domino effect through your team. It is important we start there, up top. Those two boys have got to do more defensively when the opposition have the ball.
“Say the goalkeeper throws the ball out, against the better sides or in our better games, we go bang, we stop them and the keeper kicks it. When he does that we get the second balls and we can play.
“Burton caused us problems first half because we gave them too much time and then the centre halves are going to pick passes. We have to make sure that from the front we do that.
“It isn’t all of the time, but when we switch off and we don’t do it quickly enough, that is when they play out.
“There were a couple of times Saturday where the goalkeeper threw it to the centre half and Josh (Parker) or Elliott (List) hasn’t closed down in the right areas and it goes to the full-back. They go all the way through and have a shot at goal and that is coming from the 18 yard box and it shouldn’t happen.
“It’s something we are working on this week, to make sure we are getting better at it. It doesn’t happen so many times now but we can’t let it happen at all. We have to make sure we do it and we will continue working at it.”
