Boss Justin Edinburgh believes Gillingham striker Cody McDonald is looking the real deal.
McDonald ended a seven-game goal-drought to notch his first of the season against Bradford in League 1 on Saturday.
A clinical finish wasn’t enough to bag three points for Gills, but they remain well placed, just four points adrift of leaders Bolton.
“It was a great goal from Cody,” said Edinburgh. “I was pleased for him.
“He is getting fitter all the time, he is getting sharper and that will do him the world of good that goal.”
McDonald’s only other goal this season was the equaliser in the EFL Cup first round match at Southend exactly a month previously.
Edinburgh said: “He has had a couple of chances, he knows and feels he wants to be scoring. The thing you want to see as a manager is him getting those opportunities. That is my belief.
“They will come and the way he dispatched his goal was the Cody what we know. He is getting up to speed now and he will only go on from that."
