Jermaine McGlashan loves the big occasion and he’s buzzing for this weekend’s FA Cup action.
The Gills take on Bristol City in the first round at Priestfield on Saturday.
“Big games are what it’s about and what we live for,” said the winger.
“Like the game earlier this season against Coventry, these are the games you want to be involved in.
“You can get up for games as much as possible but it is just that extra bit that you get from somewhere. The players will thrive on that and we look forward to it.”
Two years ago, while at Cheltenham, he enjoyed a cup run to the third round and a game against Premier League Everton.
“That was a nice draw and they played a strong team,” said McGlashan.
“Getting on those cup runs are what you hope for as a player. Hopefully, we can get ourselves into a position where we are looking to draw Premier teams.
“Everyone loves a cup run and everyone wants to get into the draw for the next round and then into the third round where you get the big guns. There are big incentives.”
Gillingham face a massive task to reach round two. Facing them on Saturday are a team that have yet to lose in League 1.
McGlashan said: “The draw could have been a bit nicer to us but it will be interesting. Sometimes a tie like they can be good for us.
“It won’t be easy for them, they are travelling down here and the boys are upbeat.
“They won’t be coming thinking they are going to roll us over. We are looking forward to picking up a bit of form, starting Saturday.”
