Old Reigatian 17 Medway 28: Regional 2 South East match report

Medway’s opening-day defeat remains their only loss this season after a 28-17 weekend win at Old Reigatian.

Last season, Medway lost the away fixture and arrived in Surrey keen to prove a point. They showed their intent from the off and an early try from full-back Harrison Fermor, who collected a cross kick from Charlie Wardzynski, put them in early control.

Fermor added a further three points moments later with a kick from inside Medway's half but Old Reigatian kept going and were awarded their own penalty right in front of the posts.

A second try for Medway came from a penalty. They took the pass and Max Bullock found his way over the line before another successful penalty from Fermor’s boot made it 18-3 at half time.

Medway were dominant at the start of the second half and were soon rewarded, Bullock breaking through with Cole Purslow making it over the line. Old Regiatians fought back hard, however, and scored two tries to keep the pressure on.

The away side had more to give, though, and Conor Chalmers managed to score a final try, securing a bonus point in the process, to leave second-in-the-table Medway in good mood ahead of Saturday’s visit of leaders Sidcup.
