Medway made it three wins in a row in Regional 2 South East with a 33-13 success at Sutton & Epsom.
They started in a hurry, scoring a try in the opening minute when flanker Jonah Hyde gathered a loose ball and broke free, riding several tackles, before Jack Johnson added the extras.
Less than 10 minutes had passed and it was 14-0. Full-back Sean Marriott found Ben Dance and he chip-kicked over Sutton heads to collect a favourable bounce and race under the posts. Johnson once again converted.
The next 15 minutes belonged to the hosts and they reduced the arrears with their pacey winger crossing the whitewash. A last-gasp first-half penalty cut the deficit further and Medway led 14-8.
Johnson’s early second-half kicks had the hosts under the cosh and No.8 Deji Oyesola soon bulldozed over for a team try.
The visitors then enjoyed their best period with Dan Jackson making a try-saving tackle while very quick hands by an ever-improving backline stretched the home side and Hyde scored his second and Medway’s best try of the day. The conversion made it 26-8.
As Sutton got more frustrated the penalties began to flow and a deep kick, lineout and slick hands allowed wing John Sipawa to dive over in the corner for Medway’s final try, with Johnson again slotting the extras.
Sutton had the last word with their second touchdown, but a bonus-point win ensures confidence will be high when Medway return to home ground for the visit of Old Colfeians on Saturday.
