Medway 39 Sidcup 14: Regional 2 South East match report

Medway share the lead in Regional 2 South East following a 39-14 win over Sidcup at Priestfieds.

The hosts are joint top with Beckenham after Saturday’s victory, which started with an early try when Max Bullock broke through the line and fed Pete Cole, the lock doing the rest with Harrison Fermor converting.

Bullock joined Cole on the scoresheet after combining with John Sipawa, the try also converted, and he claimed his second score when he won possession, darted around several players and over the whitewash. Another conversion from Fermor made it 21-0.

The scoreboard continued to tick over when a high tackle on Medway hooker Josh Knight was punished from the tee to make it 24-0 - a yellow card adding to the visitors’ woes - but Sidcup ended the half with a try just before the break.

The away side displayed more steel at the start of the second half, with Bullock kept in check, and they had more possession, too, keeping the Medway defence occupied. But a turnover from Cole set up the hosts’ fourth try. Finding Bullock, the latter combined with Sipawa who ran the final 10m to score and set up an easy conversion for Fermor.

Sidcup weren’t finished, scoring a second try and conversion, but neither were Medway, who added a penalty and final try via Jordan Stubbington’s quick tap and push over the line.

Medway travel to eighth-placed Sutton & Epsom on Saturday.
