Thurrock 19 Medway 34: Regional 2 South East match report

It was back to winning ways for Medway with a 34-19 Regional 2 South East victory at Thurrock.

Beaten at Sutton & Epsom last time out, Medway put early points on the board with a try from Max Bullock, who collected a dropped ball and sprinted 20 metres to touch down. The conversion was missed, however.

There was no luck with the second conversion - the post getting in the way - after Conor Chalmers doubled the try count with 30 minutes gone. John Sipawa fed Harrison Fermor and he found Chalmers, left undefended, who went over.

Thurrock replied when they opted for a scrum after a penalty. Continuing to put pressure on Medway's defence, they found their way under the posts with the extras moving them to within three points.

Medway were finding the home side’s scrum too strong and Thurrock managed to score again just before half-time, making it 14-10. They were quicker out of the blocks when the second half got under way, too, kick, catching and scoring in the very first phase.

Medway continued to attack and eventually got their rewards. Noah Hyde found Jordan Stubbington and he went through the posts with Fermor converting.

Man-of-the-match Bullock then took centre stage to put Medway ahead again, using his pace to crash through several players and over the whitewash and when Thurrock were shown a yellow card the visitors capitalised. The ball made it out of a ruck right on the tryline and hooker Josh Knight, in the corner, got over the line.

Despite their comfortable lead, Medway keep attacking hard and wrapped things up with fly-half Charlie Wardzynski’s score in the final moments.

Medway, in fourth, welcome second-placed Reeds & Weybridge to Priestfields on Saturday.
