Striker Cody McDonald got one goal on Saturday but was frustrated he didn’t get a second.
McDonald’s 56th minute strike – his 10th of the season – got the Gills back into the game at MK Dons.
But with Gillingham then trailing 2-1, he missed a great chance to equalise after being put through with just the keeper to beat.
He said: “I should have done better, that’s my bread and butter. I’m very disappointed with it.
“I was going for the far corner but I didn’t get enough on it. That is the obvious thing to do in that position. I let the gap between myself and the keeper get too close and maybe I could have hit it earlier.
“I know that I have to take the positives from getting in that position. Me and Bradley Dack work hard to get into that position but I let myself and others down.
“I will work hard in training in the week to make sure I rectify that. I will put it right next time.”
Despite missing the chance to level himself, the Gills did make it all-square. McDonald was fouled in the area and Josh Wright buried the rebound after his spot-kick was saved.
Sadly, the Gills couldn’t hang on for the point, conceding a third goal just moment later.
“Maybe our heads switched off because we thought we had done it,” reflected McDonald.
“They were down to 10 men (George Williams was sent off for the foul on McDonald) but we can’t do things like that at this level because you will get punished.”
