Invicta Dynamos no longer have anyone to fear in ENIHL South 1 after they beat Cardiff Dragons at the third time of asking, by a 7-5 margin at the Gillingham Ice Bowl on Sunday evening.
The Mos have now beaten every team in the league and won this latest encounter with the Welsh side thanks to a five-goal blitz at the end of the second period and the start of the third.
Up until that point Cardiff had looked set to continue their dominance over Kevin Parrish’s men. They led 1-0 at the end of the first period through Mike Price, and 2-1 with 27 minutes gone after Martin Melichercik and Luke Piggott traded markers.
The tension in the home crowd eased when Adam Copland skillfully beat Cardiff netminder Ross Piggott with a powerplay effort to level. With four minutes gone in the third the anxiety had disappeared entirely as Andy Smith, Damian Welch, Elliot Andrews and Milan Kostolny scored to make it 6-2. Andrews’ goal was his 500th point for the club.
Cardiff hit back with three goals in three minutes to set up a nervy finish, before Kostolny scored Invicta’s seventh at 59.51 to make sure of the points.
