Gillingham boss Steve Evans admits they are no longer in talks with potential signings.
Evans was hoping to add fresh blood to the squad following the closure of the transfer window, with a number of free agents available. But that has come to nothing.
“We are not talking to anyone,” said Evans this week.
“If someone jumped up tomorrow and they are a free agent and we look at them and think ‘yes, you would make a difference’, we would bring them in, because we could do with a bit of help.”
Evans has gone for quality over quantity this season, trimming his squad down to a bare minimum.
He said: “I didn’t want to go through the January transfer window signing one or two and thinking when everyone in the group is fit they would be in the stand.
“It was a case of getting better in than we have got and that is the same criteria, we have to add better or not at all.
“We genuinely only got close to one but he chose to go to the MLS and good luck to him.
“We have to get on with what we have got, everyone knows what each other is about and they know each other’s game. We know the fitness levels of the players, we know where we are, we are in really good shape.
“We let ourselves down against Wimbledon but the boys have been tremendous, they have been a credit.”
Gillingham’s last addition was Jordan Graham, who joined on loan from Wolves at the end of January.
Jordan Roberts and John Akinde were also signed during the last transfer window while Mikael Ndjoli, Ouss Cisse, Roman Campbell, Lee Hodson, Alex Jakubiak and Bradley Garmston all departed.
