Garmston scored the crucial third goal in the win at the weekend and he is enjoying the experience at Gillingham.
He said: “If you are not getting a look-in (at your parent club) you need to be looking to get out and playing proper football and getting experience. That is the only way you can push on in your career.
“I’ve come into the team and I have been getting used to the system and back playing league games.
“Over the past few weeks I’ve been getting used to the players and become more confident on the pitch.”
Garmston initially came in as cover for injured Joe Martin, on a month’s loan, but is now keeping him out on merit.
The Gills can no longer sign players on deals until the end of the season, following the closing of the last transfer window.
They can keep Garmston for a maximum of 93 days so he would miss the last few weeks of the season and the play-offs, should the Gills get that far.
Garmston will be hoping an impressive run at the Gills earns him a place in the West Brom team.
His parent club are still in the FA Cup and he was asked about finishing the season in a Wembley final for the Baggies.
“We will see what happens with that,” he joked.
“The main aim right now is with Gillingham and trying to push for the play-offs. We are in a great position and if we can keep this up, that is my aim.”
