Hollands & Blair bounced back with a win on Saturday and are now eyeing a “massive free hit” with a game at Faversham Town.
As part of the Southern Counties East League Groundhop weekend, there’s sure to be a bigger crowd than normal to watch the Premier Division match, and Scott Porter’s men are well up for spoiling the home side’s party.
Looking ahead to their game at the title-favourites, Porter said: “I expect a big crowd there and if you can’t get up for games like that, against a team like that, a crowd like that and players you’re playing against, I am up for it, I am the manager, all of my staff can’t wait.
“Straight away it was what we were all thinking about after Saturday’s game. We’ll put a plan together and look to spoil the party.
“Players have to be eight, nine and 10 out of 10s to get anything from a game like that, but there is not one bit of pressure on us at all because their wage budget compared to ours is completely laughable.
“We live by our means as a football club, we’re moving forward and I couldn’t be enjoying it any better, so we go there for a massive free hit, to go and upset the party and put in a performance.
“What they’ve got blows us out of the water regarding the money and the wage bill for players but this is the SCEFL and anyone can beat each other. There is absolutely no pressure on us and we will be bang up for going there and causing an upset.”
Blair beat Welling Town 3-1 away on Saturday, coming from behind to beat a team who had a player sent off just before the interval.
Dean Grant - who will be back to face his former side this weekend - made it 1-1 just after Welling went down to 10 men and put Blair in front after an hour. He couldn’t complete the hat-trick from the penalty spot but teed up Harvey Welford to complete the scoring in injury-time.
That win followed last Tuesday’s disappointing 3-1 home defeat against Deal Town.
“We just had to bounce back with a result,” Porter said.
“I was very frustrated last Tuesday with the goals that we gave away again.
“You have to be at your best against teams like Deal, they are an organised side, have been together a while and they are big and physical. All three of the goals we gave away were individual mistakes.
“Going into the Welling Town game we just had to get a result. You never know what you’re going to get against Welling, they chop and change their team, they get players on loan from here, there and everywhere and they have some good players individually.
“I said to the boys, ‘don’t bother looking at the table, it will be a tough one’. We went through the motions and still got a result. We only got going when the sending-off happened and we got the goal just before half-time.
“Dean Grant knows where the goal is, he had two chances and scored two goals. He’s been a massive plus for us and that’s what he gets his money for as a striker.
“Harvey wrapped it up after Deano went down the side and threaded it through. It was pleasing to get the result and bounce back after the Deal game.”
