Chatham Town chairman Kevin Hake says he’s getting calls on a daily basis for the chance to manage the club.
Since Scott Lindsey left for an assistant manager role at Swindon Town, the Chats chairman has taken over the reins himself in a co-caretaker capacity with director of football Carl Laraman.
Hake had no issues swapping his suit for a tracksuit - they’ve won two from two so far - and there seems no rush to take on a new manager yet. But he won’t be short of options when the time comes.
Following their 6-2 FA Cup win over Eastbourne United, Hake said: “Neither of us wanted the role but it’s needs must and the players have grouped together around us. It is nice to be able to continue the good work that has been done at the club, to make sure that nothing really changes and we keep with the same philosophy that’s been instilled for the last couple of years.
“It is not chairman and director of football in the dressing room, we’re the managers, nobody calls me chairman, it is Kev and Carl. They know the reasons why we have done it, we are giving it our best shot to give the club the best opportunity to win this league and to do well in all the competitions we compete in.
“We have gone out early to say that myself and Larry are doing it, so the CVs have gone away, but I would be lying if I said I don’t get phone calls almost on a daily basis saying, ‘keep us in mind’, that is what people want to do and I don’t blame them.
“It says a lot about what has been achieved here. Last time around we had in excess of 100 candidates, there is that amount again who have come in for the role. We know that should Larry and I decide that we want to get a manager in we won’t be short of options for a manager who wants to come in and progress the football club. It is comforting to know that is always in the background.
“They can see the progression the club has made and they see what the club is capable of, with the ground, the infrastructure, everything is set to go.
“Why wouldn’t you want to be at this club? Same as a player and a fan, why wouldn’t you want to support this club? Everything is going in the right direction.
“We have 35 apprentices and scholars who have just started and that is laying the foundations of the club, youth being the lifeblood of the club. It is a club that year on year, month on month, is progressing at such a rate, which is great to see.”
