Noel Mbo believes he has what it takes to challenge Gillingham’s senior strikers.
He netted for the Gills last Saturday in their friendly match against Tonbridge Angels and would love the opportunity to prove his worth on the bigger stage.
Speaking after his weekend appearance, the 19-year-old said: “I feel I am doing well. It’s a big season ahead.
“I am going to give it my all this season and any little opportunity that I get I’m going to take it because you don’t get a lot of opportunities.
“I have been here for quite a while and I don’t feel like I am the young one coming through any more. I look up to the likes of Eavesy, but what they can do I can do as well, I just need to show it.”
Tom Eaves, Conor Wilkinson, Brandon Hanlan, Josh Parker, Elliott List and Liam Nash are all among those vying for a spot upfront but Mbo believes he can force his way in.
“It is do-able,” he said.
“You just have to put in that work. I believe I can do it and any little chance I get I'll take and give my all. I will prove it when the time comes.
“The dream is to score in the league and if I can help the team get promoted that would be a good thing.
“It is a big season for everyone and with our manager, you feel that he could call on you at any time, which is why everyone is ready to get on.”
Mbo missed the first round of matches in pre-season with a knee injury but has now shrugged that off, featuring as a second half sub at Tonbridge and scoring a goal from 25 yards.
He said: “I had a little knock and it set me back but I think I am getting back to my normal routine and getting stronger and fitter at the same time.
“It was a good strike (against Tonbridge) but I had a good opportunity before that, I kind of went before the ball and missed it, so I had to make up for it!”
