Goalscorer Luke Norris knows he has little hope of budging Gillingham’s current strike pair.
But he’s hoping Saturday’s goal gives manager Justin Edinburgh food for thought.
Norris, who hasn’t started a game since Boxing Day, netted late in the game at Yeovil for his fifth of the season.
“I can’t complain because Cody (McDonald) and John (Marquis) have been flying,” said the 21-year-old.
“I am really happy for them and John is a good friend of mine.
“If I can (score) then you put the big question in the manager’s mind. I haven’t done it enough this year but hopefully I can start improving.”
Norris’ confidence was boosted with a midweek hat-trick for the development team.
“I needed a run-out,” he said. “I think we were a lot stronger than them (Peterborough) age-wise but it is always nice to win games and score goals, no matter what level you play.”
The former Brentford striker, who arrived in the summer, has been told by Gills boss Justin Edinburgh that he has a part to play under his tenure.
That was welcomed by Norris, who said: “The new manager said he saw me last year and told me he liked me.
“He has been really good with everyone, especially the lads who haven’t been playing. He has told us all we are on a clean slate.
“You can’t change a winning side, I don’t think anyone would. I think if things do start to change then he will start to give others a chance.”
