Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh pleased with striker Frank Nouble's contribution on second Priestfield debut

Striker Frank Nouble was back in a Gillingham shirt on Saturday.

The 25-year-old, who last played his football in China, received international clearance in time to face Oldham at Priestfield.

Nouble last played for Gillingham in December 2011, at the end of a short but successful loan spell from West Ham, scoring five goals in 13 league appearances.

Gills boss Justin Edinburgh said: “He did well. He ran out of steam in the end but we had brought a few players back who had been out for a while, who had carried knocks.”

Edinburgh was forced into taking those players who were coming back from injury off and leaving Nouble on.

He said: “If we’d of had a team that had completed (more) 90 minutes then we probably wouldn’t have made those changes and we might have brought Frank off with 10 minutes to go.”

Nouble tweeted after the game: “Great feeling playing back at the Gills. First game in ages, not the result we wanted, but only us can get us back (up) the table and we will.”

Meanwhile, Ryan Jackson made an appearance off the bench after a late call-up. The defender wasn’t on the teamsheet but replaced Billy Knott in the squad.

Edinburgh explained the switch and said: “Knott picked up an injury in the warm-up and unfortunately he had to miss out and we brought Ryan Jackson in.”
